Snap Shot: Shanghai Steamed Bāozi

I captured this shot last weekend at the corner of Donghu Lu and Fumin Lu in Shanghai’s former French Concession. Bāozi or simply known as bao, bau, humbow, nunu, bausak, pow or pau is a traditional Chinese steamed bun, made of yeast and often filled with pork or a vegetarian mixture. The image of steam rising up from a basket of bāozi on a chilly Shanghai day, is just so redolent of being in China in winter.

  1. Congratulations on being freshly pressed. I love the colors in these photos. Hope I get to go to Shanghai to enjoy Shanghai Steamed Bāozi someday…. It’s on my short list!
